If you’re a smartphone user who makes phone calls for a high cost, then it’s time for you to learn about the availability of VoIP phone applications that make free long-distance and international phone calls possible. If you’re new to this, well, VoIP simply stands for “Voice over Internet Protocol” which is a technology that allows people to make telephone calls over the Internet. No need to pay hefty telephone bills because now, you can already make free calls using your smartphone by just connecting it to the Internet.
But, the big question is, which VoIP service allows free calls? There’s quite a lot, actually. But to make life easier for you, here are some of the top VoIP providers that you can use on your smartphone.
* Skype
If you want a simple-to-use, easy-on-the-pocket, and high-quality VoIP, install the Skype app in your mobile device right off the bat. Skype-to-Skype calls are free of charge, regardless of the destination. But, if you want to experience the best VoIP service from Skype, it is recommended that you sign up for their SkypeOut calling plan which allows you to call any number in your country. There is no need to worry about large fees because for only $2.99 a month, you can already make unlimited calls in any phone in the U.S. and Canada.
* Viber
Viber, just like Skype, is a VoIP that allows smartphone users to call anyone for free. But, unlike Skype, Viber allows its users to send SMS messages at zero cost. Viber is very convenient to use as it does not require you to create an account or give out your credit card information. The only catch is that in order to make free calls, the other party must also have Viber. This application is now being used by 40 million mobile users and is expected to expand as the developers continue to introduce new features and platforms for their consumers. The best thing about Viber is it syncs with your phonebook, which not only show the names of your contacts, but also which among them are on Viber. With a strong 3G or WiFi connection, the quality of voice call can be comparable to Skype.
* TruPhone
TruPhone is yet another good mobile VoIP service that allows users to make very affordable local and international calls from their smartphones. Calls made between TruPhones via WiFi connection are free. What is more, you can also call Skype and Gtalk users at no cost as long as you’re connected to the Internet. If you need to call other phones, however, you can still do so for a modest amount. There is no need to worry about steep charges because TruPhone’s voice, text, and data costs are significantly less compared to other operators. You can take your Tru sim in 220 countries and save a lot of money around the world.
* Tango
Tango is like Skype and Viber rolled into one. Just like Skype, Tango allows voice and video chats for free. And just like Viber, no account is required for sign-up. The app automatically detects which among your contacts have Tango and allows for instant communication. Unlike iPhone’s FaceTime which requires a strong WiFi connection to work, Tango users can still make voice and video calls via their data plan. The app is available on iOS phones, Windows Phones, Androids, and desktops.
VoIP applications are probably the most practical things that you can install in your mobile device. Before, long-distance and international calls using your mobile device can blow a major hole in your budget if you don’t limit your phone calls as well as your data usage. But today, with VoIP apps like Skype, Viber, TruPhone, and Tango, you can make cheaper calls on your mobile device without sacrificing the quality of your calls. What is more, there are so many other features that make VoIP services very attractive. Call waiting, voicemail, call forwarding, caller ID, and three-way calling are all possible with some providers. You can likewise send data such as pictures and documents at the same time you are talking on your mobile phone.
These are just five of the recommended VoIP apps you can install in your phone. But, which VoIP is the best among these? Well, different people have different needs and preferences. Why not try them all out? The all come for free, anyway.

The Value of VoIP to Phone Users
Mobile phones, email, and internet messengers are not the only means of mobile communication today. There is much value offered by VoIP to phone users. VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. This basically means that people can make voice calls outside of the standard wired telephone and mobile communications networks. This kind of technology sets a common ground among the affordability of landline services, the mobility of cell phones, and the availability of internet broadband connections. Those comparing VoIP to phone services will find that there are pros and cons to the use of this kind of communication technology. Weighing these pros and cons and deciding on which technology would give the best value is a matter of personal choice. Your personal and business circumstances should be your guide in deciding whether it is of value to you or not. However, there is no need to pick one technology over the other. These communication technologies can actually co-exist and may be used to complement one another.
A close comparison of VoIP to phone services would show that this communication technology works as a broadband phone. Instead of telephone wires and switchboards, your calls are coursed through the internet network as digital signals. Some form of gadget or console is necessary to convert analog signals into digital in a VoIP network. From a public switched telephone network (PSTN), you are moving towards a packet switched network with your IP transmission packets. You would often hear VoIP being referred to as IP telephony or internet telephony. This is because these technologies are very similar to one another. In fact, VoIP is considered to be a subset of IP telephony, with IP telephony making use of VoIP as a means of call transportation.
Historically, offering VoIP to phone users were targeted towards businesses looking for a more cost-effective and reliable means of communication. Today, such communication technology is available to individual consumers as private communication channels they can turn to wherever there is a 3G or WiFi signal. Even mobile phones, more particularly smartphones, can be fitted with VoIP applications. The applications called softphones enable smartphone owners to use their mobile phones as VoIP phones. Millions of individuals and companies all over the world are updating their infrastructure, hardware, and software to shift from the traditional phone network to a unified VoIP communications infrastructure.
The clear advantages of the VoIP technology are affordability and portability. The VoIP does away with carrier charges and other conventional phone subscription service fees collected from users of conventional wired landline telephones. With a data plan from an internet service provider, someone with a VoIP softphone in his laptop or smartphone can already make calls without any additional charges. This cost advantage is best enjoyed by those who make a lot of international calls. Individuals and businesses would considerably cut their overseas call charges with the VoIP technology. Also, businesses will also be able to enjoy cost benefits in the areas of standardizing security call protocols, routing voice calls and data networks, and call transmission. A huge percentage of company phone networks installed in recent years already use the VoIP technology.
VoIP phones can be used anywhere with a broadband connection. Unlike your mobile phone service or your standard telephone system, the VoIP is not dependent on a single network to give you a signal for the transmission of your messages. A laptop or a smartphone with a VoIP adapter or application would be all you need in order to make a phone call. Long distance and international call rates are much more affordable than those charged by standard phone service providers. Some VoIP service providers would charge a flat fee for the entire service no matter how many calls you make and at which locations you make your calls to. VoIP calls made through a desktop personal computer or a laptop are usually free of charge. Other features like conference calls, call waiting, named caller ID, and call forwarding are also available on VoIP packages without additional charges.
Despite the great value that you can enjoy with the VoIP communications technology, there are still downsides that you have to be warned about. There is still a need to have other communication devices even if you have VoIP. Power outages and heavy network or server traffic are two of the issues that consumers have with VoIP services. Designating VoIP and your other mobile communication devices to address your various communication needs would give you a more efficient and money-wise way of utilizing modern communications technology whether for business or for personal purposes.

Free VoIP for More Affordable Calls
It was barely a decade ago when the Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP made a debut to change the communications landscape. A lot of consumers are now availing of VoIP services for their personal and business communication needs. These services are now being offered for free in various applications to make calling much more affordable. Traditionally, consumers would have to have a landline subscription or a mobile phone service subscription to call each other. With VoIP, phone calls can now be made using an internet connection. The call process remains the same, you still need a device in which you can talk and hear the person you are calling. The dialer and transmitter devices also remain as a constant feature. The difference between VoIP services and conventional landline services is in the way the communications signals are transported.
Instead of analog signals, VoIP uses data packets that travel through the internet network to send voice calls. Although some would say that there are inherent drawbacks to this technology, it cannot be denied that there are clear advantages that a specific group of consumers can enjoy. Consumers who have a need to do a lot of long distance and international calls as well as those who are always on the go would benefit most from free VoIP services. They can take advantages of the lower call costs as well as the anytime, anywhere convenience of VoIP calling. This technology can erase your worries on phone lines or per-minute charges that can run sky-high. All it takes is a mobile phone, a phone service subscription, and an internet network to be able to make a call using this new communications technology.
For those who are always out, downloading free VoIP applications on their mobile devices would be advisable. These applications are free of charge but you would still have to pay for your mobile phone subscription services. Since most modern phones have 3G and WiFi capabilities, connecting to the internet to make VoIP calls is easy. Even those without a data plan on their phone subscription can connect to the internet wherever there is a 3G or WiFi signal. You may want to note that these free VoIP applications might not work for all mobile phone brands or with all mobile phone services carriers. There are some brands and carriers that bar subscribers from using such applications on their devices.
To try this service on your own mobile device, check out the different VoIP applications for download over the internet. There are a few that have been proven to be efficient as an alternative for calling long distance and international phone lines. Aside from checking out the compatibility and system requirements, you would also have to know what phone numbers are accessible through these VoIP applications. In most cases, VoIP downloads are only free to use for access to someone with the same application installed in his mobile device. Calls made outside of the application, as in VoIP to landline calls, would have charges. Yet, some consumers still find these charges more affordable than traditional phone service charges.
Another way to enjoy VoIP calls for free is through computer-to-computer calling. There are programs that allow you to make calls using this technology such as Skype and Google Voice. Just as in applications for mobile phones and devices, these are only free when used to call another person using the same program. Local and domestic calls are often free and unlimited while international calls are charged extremely low fees. With the kind of connectivity you can enjoy with VoIP, you do not have to feel cut off from your daily concerns when you leave home for as long as you have your computer with you.
There are still consumers with a need for more affordable calls in their homes or offices. These consumers can also benefit from VoIP communications services in the same way that mobile phone users can. Using their broadband connection, whether cable or DSL, they can turn their landline phones into VoIP capable phones. They only need an analog telephone adaptor (ATA) to connect to their landline phone and their internet router. Some call services providers also have available IP phones that can be connected directly to the internet router to make VoIP calls anytime.

Avoiding Search Engine Optimization Scams
Search Engine Optimization is an incredibly important part of running a successful website. The field of SEO is one that changes rapidly, and because of this it can be incredibly confusing for beginners. There are a lot of scammers operating in the search engine optimization world, and if you are not an expert webmaster it can be hard to tell the good guys from the scammers and black-hat SEOs. Here are a few tips to help you avoid the most common rip-off merchants.
Find Your Own SEO Company
Do not, under any circumstances, use an SEO firm that contacts you out of the blue. It doesn’t matter whether they email you or send you a letter in the post, you should not use them. Blanket advertisements are not a hallmark of a good SEO company. After all, if an SEO company were any good, they would rank well in the search results themselves, and have plenty of customers coming their way through Google, wouldn’t they? Spam emails, and letters sent to companies whose addresses they have pulled from domain name registration databases, are marks of a company that is desperate for customers.
Be Wary Of Ranking Guarantees
Another thing that no reputable SEO firm will do is promise to get you a specific ranking in a given time frame. If a company promises to get you on the front page for “XYZ keyword” within a certain time, they are making promises that they might not be able to keep. There is absolutely no way to guarantee that you will make it on the front page. Well, no way other than to buy your way into the paid search results, but those results don’t count. Organic search results are fluid. Google’s ranking algorithm is a mystery to everyone other than Google themselves. SEO pros have reverse engineered most of the algorithm, and know enough to understand what Google likes and what they don’t like, but you are competing against other webmasters, and you have no way of knowing what SEO work those webmasters are doing.
A good SEO firm will promise to improve your rankings, and they will try to get you to the front page, but they can only try. Don’t ask your SEO company to guarantee a specific ranking, and don’t trust a company that makes that promise without prompting. Be realistic in your expectations.
Don’t Use Black Hat Techniques
Black hat techniques, such as buying links, using automated link building tools, or using networks of blogs set up only for link building, are incredibly dangerous forms of SEO. Google is committed to cleaning up the quality of their search results, and they are clamping down on black hat techniques quite pro-actively. You may get away with some of those techniques today, but when Google catches them your rankings will suffer.
A good SEO firm will help you get sustainable results. SEO is not a one-off effort, and you will need to continue link building and improving your site design. Be consistent, and create good content, and the results will come.

Is It Worth Buying A Blu-ray Player With Included Media Streaming?
When shopping around for Blu-ray players you'll quickly notice that they can do a lot more than just play Blu-ray discs. One of the most common features is access to media streaming apps: services that'll let you rent digital downloads, streamed directly from the internet to your TV. But are these services really worth it?
The Drawbacks Of Media Streaming On A Blu-Ray Player
The most obvious drawback to buying a Blu-ray player with included media streaming is the increased cost. The truth is, however, that Blu-ray players are now more affordable than ever, and you can now pick up a player with media streaming for under $100 if you want to. If you want a real bargain, however, you could purchase the most basic Blu-ray player you can find, alongside a $70 Roku 2 media streaming player. For most people, however, it's easier to buy an all-in-one device.
The next drawback is the range of services typically available on any Blu-ray player. You'll find that every Blu-ray player offers a slightly different range of services, though most include Netflix as standard. Beyond this you'll need to choose between Hulu Plus, Amazon Video On Demand and other services on offer. Since media streaming is still relatively new, it can be difficult to know which of these services will really take off in future. Although a certain service may seem better right now, you might wish you'd bought a different player when another service starts to take off in future.
You'll also need to bear in mind that streaming movies and TV shows from the internet is going to use up a lot of bandwidth. If you have limited bandwidth, or a slow connection, then you may find them difficult to use. Bear in mind, also, that even HD quality streaming doesn't match the quality of a physical Blu-ray disc.
The Benefits Of Media Streaming On A Blu-Ray Player
Despite the drawbacks above, there are still many benefits of buying a Blu-ray player with media streaming built right in. You'll have access to a huge library of movies and TV shows at your fingertips, without needing to buy a separate device, and you can choose a movie and start watching almost instantly. As mentioned above, the price is now affordable enough to make it worthwhile if you're planning on buying a Blu-ray player anyway.
In short, it's up to you to decide how you most like to watch your movies and TV shows. If, like most people, you enjoy the flexibility of watching high quality Blu-ray discs, and renting shows from time to time, then a Blu-ray player with online media streaming could make a winning combination. If, however, you prefer one format over the other, you'll save money by opting for a standalone device.

An Introduction to Laptop Tablets
Convertible laptop tablets, or hybrid tablets as they’re also popularly known, are tablets/laptops that can shift from one function to the other. In other words, they can be both a tablet and a laptop at different times.
The way in which this is achieved differs from product to product. At the moment each company has their own unique technology that allows the device to be used as either a tablet or laptop. These technologies include a screen that folds a full 360 degrees so that it faces up on the back of the keyboard, a screen that twists on the vertical access from the connection with the keyboard base and can then lie face up over the keyboard, a screen that slides over the keyboard into an upright position and a screen that can be completely removed from the keyboard base.
Each of these options has its merits, although the one that offers the best solution to tablet portability and laptop functionality is probably the one with the completely detachable screen. This screen then becomes only the size, thickness and weight of a standard tablet when removed from the keyboard base, making it vastly more portable than the alternatives.
The other remarkable kind of hybrid laptop/tablet is that which has a keyboard built into the tablet cover. Windows Surface RT provides the best example of this right now, and is truly a marvel. Although the cover looks almost no different to one used for an iPad from the outside, open it up and you find a full keyboard on the inside. This incredibly thin keyboard adds next to nothing to the size or weight of the tablet but provides the additional productive capabilities that a keyboard brings.
Convertible or hybrid tablets generally boil down to a trade-off. This trade-off is between functionality and portability. Tablets generally have longer battery lives and are lighter weight and smaller than hybrids. Hybrids, on the other hand, are more powerful and are better suited to productivity tasks. That makes them better as devices for work as well as leisure.
If you’re not sure which option to go for, then read through our handy guide that introduces you to the basic essentials of tablets and hybrids. The options can seem many and varied, but once you understand the core features that really determine what kind of use you’ll get from a product things get considerably easier.

When is a point and shoot camera more useful than a DSLR?
A point and shoot camera is the choice of many consumer digital camera users, and for good reason. These little electronic computers generally have their closest cousin, the DSLR, beat in these three areas:
- Size and Weight
- Price
- Ease of Use
1) Size and Weight
Most point and shoot digital camera users like the light weight and small size due to the fact that they like to carry their camera in a shirt pocket, pants pocket or in a purse or man bag. That is just not possible with a DSLR or compact digital camera as most require a dedicated camera bag or carried over the shoulder by a camera strap. But for the occasional shooter, if their camera is big and bulky, they most likely will not carry it with them and consequently miss some great shots. With a footprint of generally around 3.75” x 2.25”, less than 1” thick, and weighing in at less than 8 ounces, point and shoots can be the perfect choice when size and weight are factors.
2) Price
The second most popular reason is price. Many consumer digital camera users may only use their cameras occasionally while at parties, on vacation or at family functions, such as anniversaries, birthdays, baptisms, etc. Generally, they don’t want to tie up a lot of money in something they may only use once-in-awhile. Here again, the point and shoot digital camera is the clear winner. With most of these cameras costing less than $500, they are a great buy for what you get, need and most likely use.
3) Ease of Use
Besides size/weight and price, probably the biggest reason people choose a point and shoot camera is for the simplicity and ease of use. With only occasional shooting, it is hard to remember what you have to do with a DSLR or compact digital camera to get the photos you want. But with these little gems, they do most of the work for you, but yet still have many of the requested user-adjustable features, such as:
- white balance
- aperture
- shutter speed
- ISO
- image stabilization
- exposure compensation
- flash
For those wanting to exercise their creativity, they can, while others that are fine with the camera making their selections for them can also get great photos while set on Program, Auto or any of the other scene-specific modes, including:
- beach
- snow
- night
- fireworks
- face detection
- backlit
- and whole host of others
While making the decision to buy a point and shoot digital camera can be easy, brand and model selection can be more difficult. However before shopping, define what you need based on the three benefits in this article. That will narrow your field down to a manageable group for the rest of the selection process.

What To Consider When Buying A Handheld Games Console
The gaming market exploded with Nintendo’s first handheld gaming unit, the Game Boy, in 1989. Since then, Sony and Nintendo have continued to push the boundaries when it comes to portable gaming.
It can be difficult to see what sets one console apart from another, so here’s a guide to the top features to look out for when shopping for your new device.
Design
Handheld gaming devices are available in a variety of colors to suit any taste, whether you want something simple as black, or bright as red. All the devices range in weight from 5.57 ounces to as heavy as 11.03 ounces, depending upon the design (larger screens usually mean heavier devices).
For the comfort of your hands, the width ranges from as small as 2.4 inches to as large as 6.7 inches. Note that this is not the full screen size. For some devices, this measurement includes the large bordering frame with a small viewing screen, and some include a larger viewing screen and smaller border.
The height of the gaming console also varies, depending if it is a flip style screen on top and controls on the bottom, which can be as small as 2.9 inches or as tall as 3.6 inches. If it is an open face style, it can range from approximately three to four inches with the controls on the side or touch screen. The more compact units may be difficult for adults to maneuver the controls.
All gaming consoles now come with high pixel color screens that bring gaming to life with vivid colors, as well as some that are in 3D picture and gaming functions.
Choose a size that’ll be easy for you to control with your hands, and easy to take with you in your bag every day.
Available Games
As with standard consoles, all of the handheld consoles have specific games that will work only on that console (though some of the major titles will work on all platforms).
Think about the kind of games you really like playing, and choose a console to match. Brain Training, for example, has become a huge hit on the DS, as have all the Nintendo favorites like Mario.
On the PS Vita, however, it’s all about the amazing graphics and the console is more aimed at serious gamers.
Backwards Compatibility
Have you owned a handheld console in the past? Then you may want to stick with the same line as long as the new model is compatible with your old game. Note that you cannot play your old PSP games on the PS Vita unless they were downloaded from the online store.
Extra Features
All handheld consoles allow you to listen to game sounds and music with earphones or inbuilt speakers.
The devices also have the ability to connect to the internet via Wi-Fi, and you can use this to take advantage of extra services like Netflix and Skype.
If you do want to use Skype, or need to take photos, then check the kind of camera that comes with your handheld device.
Accessories
All top handheld consoles include cable adapters, as well as a rechargeable battery pack that’ll let you play your game for around 3-14 hours, depending upon the games you are playing.
Cases and protective screen protectors are all sold separately in a variety of colors and styles, from the frequent gamer to the occasional gamer.
Price
The pricing of the top handheld gaming devices ranges from $129.99 - $249.99, depending on whether you opt for an older or newer device. That’s quite a big jump, which explains why some of the older models (like the PSP 3000) are still so popular in comparison to the newer models (like the PS Vita).
